birdTV for Android
A TV remote on your phone, with the bird as the arrow pad. It finds your TV on your Wi-Fi by itself, and adds a home-screen widget plus Mute and Power buttons in the pull-down Quick Settings menu.
Works with: Samsung, Roku (Roku TVs and Roku sticks/boxes), LG, Vizio and Sony TVs. Your phone needs Android 8 or newer and has to be on the same Wi-Fi as the TV.

Installing it
This app isn't in the Play Store, so Android asks a few extra questions. That's normal for apps shared directly.
- Tap Download birdTV 0.3 above. If the browser warns the file might be harmful, tap Download anyway.
- When it finishes, tap Open (or open it from your notifications or the Downloads folder).
- If Android says your browser isn't allowed to install apps, tap Settings, switch on Allow from this source, then go back.
- Tap Install. If Google Play Protect pops up, tap More details then Install anyway.
- Open birdTV. Make sure the TV is on, then tap your TV in the list.
- The first time, the TV asks to pair. On a Samsung or LG, choose Allow or Yes with the TV remote. On a Sony or Vizio, the TV shows a PIN: type it into birdTV and tap Pair.
Extras
- Widget: touch and hold an empty spot on your home screen, tap Widgets, find birdTV and drag the remote onto the screen. Make it bigger for volume, back and home buttons.
- Quick Settings: swipe down from the top of the screen, tap the pencil (edit) button, and drag Mute TV and TV Power into your tiles.
Updating
Come back here, download the newer version and install it over the old one. Your TV stays set up.
